Puerh Beeng Cha from Canton Tea Co

What better then a great, high quality cup of Tea to digest a big lunch?! I was waiting for the right time to taste this special Puerh Beeng Cha that Edgar Thoemmes from Canton Tea Co., has sent me a few weeks ago.

The Tea is fantastic – light, fresh and sweet in taste (with flowery notes); and it has a long and persistent aftertaste.

Puerh Teas can be compressed in different shapes: disc (beeng cha), nest (tuo cha), brick (fang cha) and mushroom (jin cha). Today´s Tea is in a form of a disc – Puerh Beeng Cha.

This cake is made in a small artisan farm in Yi Wu Mountain, Meng Hai, Yunnan, China and has been traditionally stone-pressed. This is a very young Tea –  it was pressed on the 30th April 2011. The cake uses maocha from large arbor varietal teas and leaves are all grade 6 or above with some young buds.

I just finished my 1st infusion! Will continue to drink all afternoon!

Thank you Edgar for this experience and Tea Break. The Tea is amazing!

Medieval Tea

I have just arrived from the Château de Chillon (Chillon Castle), in Montreux, Switzerland. It is a fantastic Castle, full of live, with a lot of fun activities and such good history. I highly recommend you to visit it!

While we were there (my friend Carolina and I), we bought a pack of Tea (tisane) called “Veillée de Dame Flo” – which is a combination of mint, lavande and chamomile. A delicious and helpful mixture for your digestion! Although the recipe is from Madame Flo, this tisane is made with plants that already grew during medieval times.

Christmas Tea Tree

This year I decided that I don’t want the traditional christmas tree so I was looking for some funky alternatives. I found some great ideas: the upside down xmas tree, the beer bottle xmas tree, the sushi xmas tree, the candy xmas tree, origami xmas tree,…

I loved the idea of an upside down xmas tree but it lacked a theme. Suddenly my mother sent me an email with an idea… “Why don’t you decorate your xmas tree with Tea?”.

Here are some inspirational ideas on how to use Tea in your xmas tree decoration:

1. Use Tea cups and Tea pots

2: Use Tea bags (preferably colourful ones)

3. Use Tea ornaments

4. A Christmas Wreath made with Tea bags

Tea can be used in many different ways not only in your Xmas decoration but also for handmade presents. Stay tuned for more ideas!

Happy Tea Xmas!

Idea for a wedding

We got married a year ago – 4/12/2010!!! What a special day. It has been an amazing year!

As we got married in winter and I have this passion for Tea, We decided to serve Tea (an infusion, to be more exact) and to give a Teabag as a gift to all our family and friends. Everything was home made, even the Tea, as my mother had most of the necessary plants in her garden. It was really special! We named it M&M Tea (as our names are Manuel&Mariana)!

The  Tea was the combination of melissa/lemon balm, lemon grass and lemon verbena.

Green Tea may help trim bad cholesterol

A recent U.S study* shows that green Tea may help trim bad cholesterol.

The research, published in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association, pooled the results of 20 clinical trials that involved a total of 1,415 adults and shows that green Tea trimmed 5 to 6 points more from people’s total cholesterol and “bad” LDL cholesterol levels than other treatments.

The trials tested green Tea in a cup or capsules containing green Tea compounds. Green Tea in a cup was more consistently effective than capsules, though the benefits overall were fairly small, noted senior researcher Olivia Phung, an assistant professor of pharmacy at Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, California.

Olivia Phung also suggests that if someone is already taking medicine for their cholesterol they should stick with it but adding green Tea to the diet could further improve the cholesterol results.

There are other questions too, including what dose of green tea catechins is ideal, but the researchers were unable to test for a “dose-response” effect, which would have shown whether the cholesterol benefits increase as the catechin dose goes up.

Despite the positive health benefits, Green Tea should always be taken in moderation as it contains caffeine.

Happy Tea Break.
