My Tea Break

Rediscovering Tea around the world

My Tea Break & Charity:Water

Dear Tea Friends,

Did you know that one billion people on the planet don’t have access to safe, clean drinking water? That’s one in eight of us! Diseases from unsafe water and lack of basic sanitation kill more people every year than all forms of violence, including war. Children are especially vulnerable, as their bodies aren’t strong enough to fight diarrhea, dysentery and other illnesses. 90% of the 30,000 deaths that occur every week from unsafe water and unhygienic living conditions are of children under five years old. Many of these diseases are preventable. The UN predicts that one tenth of the global disease burden can be prevented simply by improving water supply and sanitation.

You can still help us raise money to fund water projects for communities in need through: http://mycharitywater.org/myteabreak

Charity: water started in 2006 with a simple idea: everyone on the planet should have clean water to drink. 100% of the money raised will go directly to the people in need and in 18 months you’ll see proof of the projects built using photos and GPS.

With only $20 you can help one person get fresh clean water.

We hope you can help us fund more water projects.

Thanks,

Mariana & Tania

Cold Tea / Chá Frio

The Spring is here and the weather is now warmer (ihih!) ! So, today, I am suggesting Cold Tea.

How to prepare it? It´s very simple!

- You should infuse 10g of Tea in 1 Litre of water at room temperature for one night.  Take the leaves in the morning and put your Tea in the fridge.

- Another way to prepare it is by infusing 10g of Tea on 1/2 L at the recommended temperature, let it cool down and add 1/2 L of cold water.

You can use aromatized or flower Teas, but also plain Teas. Last summer I used to drink a lot of Oolong Bao Zhong, an amazing Tea from Taiwan. I also recommend cold Rooibos, which is great for children! You can also add citrus peel, sugar, honey, mint, ginger and/or spices.

Happy Tea Break,

Mariana!

Chegou a Primavera, o tempo está mais quente e apetece mais beber um refresco! My Tea Break aconselha que beba Chá Frio!

È muito simples de preparar:

- Faça uma infusão de 10g de chá para 1 litro de água à temperatura ambiente. Deixe as folhas durante a noite.

Mariana!

World Water Day

Today is World Water Day, an event established by the United Nations in 1993 to highlight the challenges associated with this precious resource. Water is at the heart of many religions and is used in different rituals and ceremonies. Fascinating and ephemeral, water has been represented in art for centuries – in music, painting, writing, cinema – and it is an essential factor in many scientific endeavours as well.

It is important to draw attention to the global water crisis and the importance of water to public health

Check out this amazing video by charity:water, a non-profit organization bringing clean, safe drinking water to people in developing nations.

With $50 we already helped 2 people get cleaned water. Help us fund more water projects on http://mycharitywater.org/myteabreak. 100% of your donation will directly fund water project costs like pump heads, cement, pipes and local staff.

Happy World Water day.

While wondering around the streets of Madrid two weeks ago, I found out a great ´Tea Shop´. The ´Tea Shop´offers you very good quality Tea, from natural Teas to their own blends. All the staff is very professional and nice. I bought a 100g of Rooibos Vanilla that was fantastic. I highly recommend a visit.

Connoisseur James Norwood Pratt talks about Tea

Hey,

Mr Pratt has a lot of experience in the Tea world, as he has served as a consultant, teacher, taster and spokesman for several Tea companies.

He is also very well known for his Tea books – “James Norwood Pratt’s Tea Dictionary”, “The Tea Lover’s Companion”, “Reading Tea Leaves” and “Tea Lover’s Treasury” (previously mentioned in our blog -http://blog.myteabreak.com/2011/09/26/new-tea-lovers-treasury-a-great-tea-book ).

In this video he answers a few questions about our favourite drink! Hope you enjoy!

Happy Tea Break,

A Very Large Cup of Tea

One of the best things about having this blog is that we’re constantly being inspired by our Tea Friends.

A Tea friend recently sent me a photo of David Shrigley’s sculpture ‘Very Large Cup of Tea’ (2012) part of the Brain Activity exhibition on show at the Hayward’s Gallery in London. David Shrigley is known for focusing on the more mundane, comforting aspects of life in his art.

Born in Macclesfield in 1968, David Shrigley has lived in Glasgow since moving there to study Environmental Art at Glasgow School of Art in 1988. Brain Activity is his first complete survey of the UK and the largest Shrigley’s exhibition to date.

The sculpture is a constantly evolving gigantic cup made from glazed ceramic which is replenished with real Tea (with milk and now sugar) every two to three days.

This exhibition is available until May 13th so it is definitely on my “to do list” for next month. :)

Happy Tea Break.

BOMEC, El paladar del Té – Tea lounge in Madrid!

I have visited this Tea house last year with my whole family. It was such a big confusion that I had no idea what to write about it!

This time, I went by myself and got a better idea of what this fantastic Tea House has to offer.

The space is very cool and relaxed. You can drink all different kinds of Teas – probably some Tea lovers will know their Teas, as they are from Mariage Frères  Le Palais des Thés and Dammann Frères.

It is a great place to come with friends to relax, enjoy and drink fantastic Tea.
