Cocoa Tea

Have you tried Cocoa Tea?

I tried for the first time in Borough Market last weekend and I have to say I’m not a big fan. The aroma is very rich but the flavour is just very bland.

Nowadays, there are a lot of cocoa and chocolate Tea options available:

Harney & Sons Chocolate Mint Tea: Black tea with chocolate flavouring and peppermint leaves

Teavana Cacao Mint Black Tea: Black Tea, cocoa pieces (chocolate, cocoa mass, sugar, cocoa butter, emulsifier soy lecithin, vanilla), hazelnut pieces, cocoa and pepperming flavouring and peppermint leaves

Adagio’s Chocolate Tea: Made with Ceylon black tea, cocoa nibs and natural chocolate flavour

Chocolate Tea Flakes by Teapigs: A blend made with Black tea, chocolate chips, cocoa beans and natural flavouring.

Numi Tea – Chocolate Pu-Erh: A rich blend of dark Puerh with organic cocoa nibs, vanilla beans, nutmeg and cinnamon.

Whittard of Chelsea Loose Dark Chocolate Tea: A blend with black Tea, cocoa bean kernels and pieces of chocolate.

Tisano Chocolate Tea: This is a pure chocolate herbal infusion as it’s made 100% from organic Cacao Bean Shell.

If you’re a chocolate fan like us you might also enjoy Matcha Chocolat’s unique, award winning chocolates created by combining artisan quality chocolate with a wide variety of fine and rare Teas, herbs, fruits, and spices from around the world.

Tea Pigs

I just found a new Tea brand, Tea Pigs. If you like the name wait until you try one of their Teas…. I love the contrast of the name. Nick and Louise, the founders,  met while working for a big Tea company and founded Tea Pigs in 2006. They say that they love Tea but don’t like the snobbery that sometimes can come with it so they try to concentrate on bringing the very best Tea and not taking themselves too seriously. Thumbs up!

At Teapigs, they believe on using quality real Tea which means they only use whole leaf Tea, herbs and flowers.  Instead of using paper Tea bags they use the Tea Temple -  a roomy, biodegradable mesh bag, which offers all the space whole leaves need to infuse properly.

Teapigs also offer you a wide range of Teas. From the Classic Darjeeling, Pure Jasmine Pearls or Silver White Tips to more exquisite and original blends like the Popcorn Tea (Green Tea with popcorn like Genmaicha), Yerba Mate – the energy brew from South America and the refreshing Lemon and Ginger. I tried this one today and it really feels like summer in a cup of Tea. It is light and refreshing with a citrus flavour. I also love their fun packaging

You can buy it online on http://www.teapigs.co.uk/ or find your nearest stockist. I found them in my local organic grocery shop. :)

Happy Tea Break.

Tea Poem by William Gladstone

I’ve just stumbled across the following poem that William Gladstone wrote during his PM years:

If you’re cold, Tea will warm you.

If you’re too heated, it will cool you.

If you’re depressed it will cheer you.

If you’re excited it will calm you.

William Gladstone (1865)

Four-times Liberal Prime Minister of Great Britain, Gladstone was one of the dominant political figures of the Victorian Era.

William Gladstone was very found of his Tea and publicly said that we has very glad that he was not born before Tea.

Happy Tea Break.

Jubilee Tea Blend by The East India Company

This year is the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II to mark 60 years of the Queen’s reign in. Several celebrations will be held across the UK during the first week of June of 2012.  In honour of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, The East India Company created a special and rare Tea blend created in honor of HRH Queen Elizabeth II, the Jubilee Tea blend.

This Tea propagated over nearly 60 years from a Tea bush planted in 1954 by HRH Prince Philip during a state visit to Sri Lanka. In 1954 the Queen was escorted on a state trip to Sri Lanka by her husband Prince Philip. Prince Philip was invited to visit the Pedro Estate Tea Plantation in Nuwara Eliya. To commemorate his visit to the estate HRH Prince Philip was given the opportunity to plant his own Tea bush, which subsequently flourished. Over the last 57 years cuttings taken from this very special bush have been propagated on the estate resulting in an exclusive royal Tea area.

We had the pleasure to taste a sample of this fine Ceylon Black Tea which has a delicate aroma and the infusion results in a bright golden liquor with a rich, smooth and creamy taste and a slight hint of sweetness. It can be drunk black but can also be taken with milk. Perfect for an afternoon Tea!

The Jubilee Tea blend is a limited edition available from April 17th (pre-order now available) and will be sold exclusively by the East India Company website or from its flagship store in Mayfair (7-8 Conduit Street, W1S 2XF, London).

If you have the chance it is worth trying this amazing Tea.

Happy Tea Break.

Tania
