Rediscovering Tea around the world

Interview with Jesse Jacobs, Founder of Samovar Tea Lounge

I’ve found this great interview from Kevin Rose (Social Entrepreneur and Tea Fan) with Jesse Jacobs, Founder of Samovar Tea Lounge.  During the video Jesse Jacobs explains his journey as an entrepreneur and how he started Samovar Tea Lounge

After a few years working long hours in the Tech industry, Jesse found himself with a need to get some more space and time in his life and found that through Tea. He created Samovar Tea with the mission of offering his customers a place to experience a ritual and find a window of mental space.

Our dearest friend Thuy Tien from Mùi Concept, has sent us a few samples of Tea. Today I decided to try the Voie Lactée (Milky Way) – an Oolong Tea with an amazing soft, but very characteristic, aroma and taste of milk!

I have to say I am completely in love with this Tea. It is quite different from other Teas, as it has a unique and sweet aroma and taste. The after taste is intense and very pleasant.

How to prepare it: use spring water at 85º; infusion of 4 minutes minimum.

This was an excellent way to start this week! Thank you Thuy!

Tea Connection @ São Paulo

The last time I was in São Paulo a friend advised me to visit Tea Connection, a Tea shop & Delhi in Jardins. The owners are actually from Argentina where they already have 6 Teashops open.

This is a great spot! The atmosphere is cool, the menu is delicious and healthy and they offer a wide range of Tea and drinks. You can choose from a traditional Earl grey, a delicate lemon flower infusion, an original Orange Oolong ( Oolong from Taiwan with spanish orange) or even a spicy Indian Chai (a blend of black Tea with ginger, cinnamon, cardamom and red pepper).

Green Melon Ice Tea

I started with a Green melon ice Tea and a delicious salmon salad with a poached egg and finished with a Green Forest Tea – Green Tea from Yunnan with cranberries and rose petals. Highly recommended!

The deserts including the cheesecake and the “Scones da Vóvó” (Grandmother scones) looked absolutely amazing but I didn’t have time or stomach to try those. Next time!

Where: Alameda Lorena, 1271, Jardins, São Paulo, Brazil

Crazy Tea @ Madrid

Hi Everyone,

Today I tried my first Bubble Tea in Madrid! It was extremely warm and this was a really good way to refresh my day! I drank Green Tea with hibiscus and Lychi. Hibiscus is very good for hypertension, it helps the breathing and digestive systems; it also helps fighting cancer. Lychi  is full of potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron, phosphorus, vitamins B and C.

You can mix and match all kinds of different fruits and sweets with Tea. This is a very cool drink and a pleasant experience!

Functional innovations – The Magisso Tea Cup

The Magisso Teacup changes the way we brew and drink Tea!

The bottom of this cup is triangled so it can sit in one of two positions. Simply put loose Tea in the strainer, pour hot water and let it steep for the right amount of time (depending on the Tea you’re brewing). Then tilt the cup the other way and voilà, ready to drink the Tea straight from the cup. No hassle of removing Tea leaves and especially useful if you’re drinking Tea in the office. The strainer is removable for easy cleaning, and the Magisso Teacup is available in 2 color versions, black or white.

Designed in Finland by Laura Bougdanos and Vesa Jääsö, the Magisso Teacup was recognized at the 2011 Red Dot design awards.

Kukicha Japanese Green Tea

A few months ago I bought this delicious Japanese green Tea – Kukicha- in a shop in Madrid called Bomec - http://www.bomec.es/home.html

Kukicha is a variety of Japanese green Tea. It is quite special as it is made of stems, stalks and twigs of the Camellia Sinensis. Therefore, this Tea is also known as Twig Tea!

Due to this mixture, Kukicha Tea has a very unique and distinctive aroma and flavour. It is light and fresh, mildly nutty and slightly sweet in flavour.

How to prepare the Tea:

  • Water temperature: between 70°C to 80°C (155°F – 180°F).
  • You can infuse up to four times
  • Infusion times: 1 – 3 minutes

Health Benefits:

  • Low in caffeine, so you can drink it all day long and it is great for those wanting to limit their intake of caffeine.
  • High level of antioxidants, which helps preventing free radicals.
  • Contains proven anti-carcinogens, which aid in preventing and fighting cancer, as well as other diseases.
  • Some studies suggest that it is great for diabetics as helps stabilising blood sugar levels.

Happy Tea Break,

Poison D’Amour – French Pastry in Lisbon

I love trying new Tea houses with my friends! The last time my friend Joana, who lives in the lovely island of Turks and Caicos and is also a blogger (check her out at myseastory.wordpress.com/), was in Lisbon we went to visit Poison d’Amour for the first time, an elegant french patisserie.

Just looking at the delicious pastry on display is worth the visit but they also have a great variety of Tea.

I had the “Rose Cassis”, a lovely white Tea with bamboo leaves, Tea flowers, rose petals and a delicate natural aroma of cassis. Joana chose the Jasmine superior.

Prices are rather high for Lisbon standards but it is still worth a visit.

The address is R. da Escola Politécnica, Príncipe Real and it is open everyday from 8am to 8pm.

Happy Tea Break.

My Tea Break shares all the enthusiasm around the world with regards to the Queen Elizabeth´s Diamond Jubilee celebrations!

”In this special year, as I dedicate myself anew to your service, I hope we will all be reminded of the power of togetherness and the convening strength of family, friendship and good neighbourliness … I hope also that this Jubilee year will be a time to give thanks for the great advances that have been made since 1952 and to look forward to the future with clear head and warm heart” Queen Elizabeth II

Lets all drink Tea and eat scones!!
