My Tea Break

Rediscovering Tea around the world

Matcha Smoothie

Today I tried this Matcha smoothie recipe. The recipe is very simple. You combine 1 cup of greek yogurt (you can also use 1 cup of milk or soy milk) , 1 teaspoon of matcha powder, and ice cubes in to a blender.

One glass of matcha is the equivalent of 10 glasses of green Tea in terms of its nutritional value and antioxidant content. That’s because when you drink Matcha you’re drinking the whole leaf (finely ground and powdered).

The result is a delicious and healthy smoothie and a boost of energy to start the day!

Happy Tea Break.

Music & Tea

Billy Corgan, the lead vocal and guitar of Smashing Pumpkins, is into TEA!

His latest project is to open a 1930s Chinese-style Tea house named “Zuzu’s or more formally Madame Zuzu’s Tea House”, in Highland Park, Chicago. In here all sorts of art and Tea come together. “It has a whimsical feel to it… it’ll feel like you’re stepping back in time in terms of space, but what we put into the space will change. My dream number is changing it 15 to 20 times a month where you’re inviting people to talk about film or have an open mic night.”.

Homemade Ice Fruit Tea

Ready-to-drink  Ice Tea  is not as healthy as we’ve been led to believe. Most brands contain artificial ingredients, sweeteners, additives and unnatural colors. Bottled teas also may contain fewer of the beneficial chemicals that give Tea its healthy reputation.

A homemade Ice Fruit Tea or Spritzer is a healthy and inexpensive way to enjoy a flavored Tea drink made at home.

Today I suggest this refreshing strawberry Ice Tea recipe:

  • 2 cups whole frozen strawberries
  • 1 litre of white Tea
  • 2 spoons of lemon juice
  • Blend your strawberries until smooth.
  • Mix the pureed strawberries, Tea and lemon juice.
  • Chill until ready to serve.
  • If you have a Prodyne Fruit Infusion pitcher you can also fill the rod with cut strawberries and let it mix with the Tea naturally.

While wondering around the most amazing streets and little roads so full of character and history in Rome, I was very lucky to meet Claudio, the owner of a very nice and cool Tea Shop – Biblioteq Tea Shop. Here you can find Tea from all over the world and all the necessary accessories to make the perfect cup of Tea.

Claudio knows a lot about Tea and can advise you which Tea suits you better, according to your taste. I bought a chinese green Tea – Li Zi Xiang – and an Earl Grey with Italian Bergamote – Earl Grey Imperial. I am really curious to try these Teas once I get back home!

    Sophie Dahl’s Lavender Tea

Remember the famous children’s book author Roald Dahl (Author of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory)? His granddaughter, Sophie Dahl’s, has her own writing career and  just launched a cookbook called Miss Dahl’s Voluptuous Delights.

One of the recipes is this lovely Earl Grey Ice Tea flavored with lavender flowers.

Source: foodandwine.com via Tania on Pinterest

The recipe is simple. Combine 8 cups of boiling water with the Earl Grey Tea (She uses Mariage Frère Tea) with dried lavender flowers and let is steep for 10 minutes. Strain the Tea and let it cool down. Sophie also ads a homemade sugar syrup (dissolve 1/4 cup of sugar with 1/4 cup of boiling water and stir) but I would rather take it with no sugar.

Serve the Tea in tall ice-filled glasses, garnished with lavender or mint springs.

Tea for 2 @ Parede, Portugal

Today, I went to a lovely Teahouse in Parede (between Lisbon and Cascais), with my mum.

This Tea house offers, not only a variety of good quality Teas; but also many different pastries and natural juices.

We had really nice scones and I tried the Irish Cream Black Tea. I enjoyed it very much. The Tea is soft and sweet in flavour and it gave me energy for my spin bike class at the gym!!!
